NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT. Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination. A reinforcement team from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. One person was confirmed dead today as a fatal accident involving a 50 seater mass transit-bus belonging to Edo state government popularly called comrade bus.The victim is identified as a man but his name and where he is from,has not been disclosed.The accident occurred around 12:30pm today friday afternoon in Ekae community,located along Sapele road,in Oredo Local Government Area of the state.According to other sources,the victim and a woman,who was believed to be his wife,were waiting along the busy highway to board a vehicle to Warri,Delta state when the bus veered off the road and knocked him down,severing his head in the process.The woman was said to have narrowly escaped being hit by the vehicle,while some of the passengers on the vehicle were said to have sustained varying degrees of injury.''It looks like the brake failed because of the way the bus just hit the man and removed his head.The man died instantly but the woman was lucky to jump and escape''.His body was deposited at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital.
