Anambra Government Reaffirms Mega City Drive, Demolishes Scores of Illegal Structures By Ruth Orji The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide. The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State. Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth. He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways. A police sergeant attached to the Taskforce for dismantling tanker traffic in Apapa area of Lagos was yesterday tuesday crushed to death by a tanker.The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command,DSP Patricia Amadin,confirmed the incident to NAN,today wednesday.She said the deceased was identified as Lukas Abashi,and the driver of the vehicle with Reg No.ANC 66XA escaped after the accident.She said the policeman died at the spot after tanker ran over him.The driver attempted to escape with the vehicle,but for the intervention of other members of the taskforce who used motorcycles to pursue him.She said the policeman was on official duty as at the time of the accident,adding that the tanker has the inscription TOTAL.The body of the police man had been deposited in the mortuary,while the tanker was taken to a police station in Apapa.She further said that the police were still trailing the driver.
