 Mirra Andreeva wins French Open at 19, becomes youngest women’s champion since Monica Seles   Russian tennis star Mirra Andreeva completed a breakout run at the French Open on Saturday, defeating Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 to capture her first Grand Slam title at age 19. Andreeva, who was already regarded as a prodigy after emerging on the WTA Tour as a teenager, became the youngest women’s singles champion since Monica Seles, who was 18 when she won her third straight French Open in 1992. Ranked eighth in the world, she controlled the final in Paris, taking command after dropping just a few early games. The match shifted decisively when Andreeva won nine consecutive games to seize control, eventually closing out the victory with a backhand winner on match point before falling to her knees in celebration on the clay. THE NIGERIAN ARMY,RESCUED 178 CAPTIVES FROM BOKO HARAM DEN IN BORNO STATE.

                         Yesterday sunday,the Nigeria army said that they rescued 178 people held captives by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram in Borno state.Spokesman Colonel Tukur Gusau said in an emailed statement that 101 of the those freed were children,67 were women and the rest were men.He added that a Boko Haram commander had also been captured and several militant camps were cleared around the town of Bama,about 70 km south east of the state capital Maiduguri..Nigeria's airforce also said that it helped ground troops repel an attack by Boko Haram around the village of Bitta on the southern edge of the Sambisa forest reserved,a stronghold of the militant group.Bitta is also west of Gwoza,a town near the Cameroonian border that was believed to be the militants headquarters until a major offensive was launched earlier this year by combined Nigeria,Nigerian and Chadian forces.
