 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 74 SOLAR POWERED TRAFFIC LIGHT,TO BE INAUGURATED BY OSINBAJO IN FEW DAYS TIME.

                                          On the 18th of September 2015,74 solar powered traffic lights in the Federal Capital Territory will be inaugurated by the Vice President of Nigeria Yemi Osinbajo.Mr Ifeanyi Ughamadu,Head of Public Relations of the secretariat,made this known in an interview with the NAN today monday in Abuja.He said that the traffic lights to be inaugurated by the Vice President were donated by the Chinese Government.''Sometime in 2012,the Federal Government had this offer of assistance from the Chinese Government to construct and install 74 solar powered traffic lights.The traffic lights were to be installedin parts of Abuja as bilateral assistance at the cost of N830 million as part of their corporate social responsibility.The contract which began in March 2015,was executed by Messers Poly Solar Technologies Beijing Limited,and was completed in July,2015.Though the FCTA did not bear any part of the contract cost,our engineers were on ground to supervise the job and ensure effective execution.The assistance came on the heels of an Afro Chinese Conference in Beijing 2012,where the Federal Government,through the National Planning Commission,requested for the assistance.FCTA still requires similar support to upgrade 90 more traffic lights into solar power for efficiency because there will be no interruption due to disruption in public power supply.Fifty five of the traffic intersections are in the city centre,11 in Kubwa and nine in Gwarinpa''
