 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 8 LARGE ILLEGALLY REFINED AUTOMATED GAS OIL,IMPOUNDED BY JTF SOLDIERS IN RIVER STATE.

                   According to sources,Joint Task force {JTF}soldiers under Operation Pulo Shield {OPS} in River state,intercepted and impounded Eight large barges loaded with illegally refined Automated Gas Oil {AGO} popularly called diesel.The JTF also arrested two suspected oil thieves and confiscated 23 empty barges reportedly used for illegal oil transport.The Commander OPS,Maj.Gen.Alani Okunlola,showed journalists the contraband and other items located near Onne port in River state this weekend.Hr said the troops from OPS Sector 2 intercepted the barges on September 23 during an anti-oil bunkering operation at Tamunotonye Ama village in Ogu Polo Local Government Area {LGA} of River state.He said the illegally refined AGO was loaded in eight large metal barges adding that two of the impounded barges had a loading capacity of seven tanker trucks.Okunlola said other iems found during the operation were large quantities of hoses,18 pumping machine,22 illegal product dumps,44 plastic tanks,three speedboats,two out board engines and 19 storage tanks loaded with stolen crude oil.The sites were destroyed in Situ while the barges were towed to the Ogoloma jetty.The suspects are in the custody of OPS.The operation is a continous one aimed at the eradication of oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta and other oil producing areas.
