 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. A DRIVER GANIYU,IMPREGNATED HIS NEIGHBOUR'S 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN MEIRAN LAGOS STATE.

                         According to the Prosecutor,Sgt Jimah Iseghede,who told an Ikeja Magistrate court today tuesday that 45 year old driver Ganiyu Afolabi,who lives at No.9,Ayinde close,Meiran Lagos state,alleged that Ganiyu had called in the 16 year old gilr to his room under the pretext of sending her on an errand and he defiled her in the process.When the 16 year old victim told the accused that she had missed her monthly flow,he procured a drug for her to use but the girl told her mother and the accused was apprehended.The accused Ganiyu is now facing a three count charge of sexual assault,defilement and attempt to procure abortion.The alleged offences were committed sometime in May 2015 at the accused residence.Though the accused Ganiyu,pleaded not guilty to all the charges.The Chief Magistrate Mr Tajudeen Elias,ordered that the accused Ganiyu should be held in prison custody until September 9 2015,when the court would deliver its ruling on his bail application.
