NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT. Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination. A reinforcement team from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. I just got a report from Vangaurd that some Boko Haram members have started surrendering willingly to the Nigerian troops following the offensive by ground troops and air strikes on Sambisa by the Nigerian Air force.Many of the terrorists were seen moving out of the Sambisa forest because they can't stand the heat from the Nigerian troops.A statement by the acting Director of Public Relations,Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman noted that the action of the terrorists,meant to escape collateral damage,was due to the new offensive strategies put in place for operation Lafiya Dole by the military high command.
