  President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administration’s economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a driving force for global influence. The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians are—”a people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared values”. THERE IS A NEW PLAN TO ACCOMMODATE 160,000 MIGRANTS CURRENTLY IN ITALY,GREECE & HUNGARY.

               According to sources today said that European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker has introduced a plan t resettle around 160,000 migrants currently in Italy,Greece and Hungary.In a speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg,Jean Claude Juncker called for solidarity from the European Union in responding to the influx of refugees from the Middle East and Africa.Britain opted out of an earlier relocation scheme foe 40,000 migrants launched in May.Jean Claude however urged all members states to adopt the Commission's new proposal to increase the migrant numbers.Members states of the political bloc are now expected to vote on the new proposal.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
