NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT. Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination. A reinforcement team from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. A Nigerian man, Wellington Jighere a graduate from the University of Benin, won for the first time in history World Scrabble Championship.He beat an Englishman Lewis Mackay and Wellington won four straight rounds in the best of seven final round at the Word English language Scrabble Players,Association Championship in Perth,Australia on saturday . President Buhari was on the phone early on sunday evening to Perth,Australia and the president congratulated Jighere Wellington.Congrats to him because is only a Nigerian man that can beat an English man in English.More photos below.
