 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. A EX-COMMISSIONER IN ADAMAWA STATE,SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR FRAUD YESTERDAY.

                  Yesterday friday December 4,2015,a former Commissioner of Local Government Affairs in Adamawa state,John Ellias Babani,was sentenced to to 10 years by Justice Bilikisu Bello Aliyu of the Federal High Court,Yoa,Adamawa state for defrauding Adamawa state government of the Sum of N51.5 miion while in office.He was arraigned by the EFCC {Economic and Financial Crimes Commission} on March 5,2013 alongside two others who were discharged as well as a company owned by Elias on four count charges of fraud.Justice Aliyu sentenced the first convict,John Babani Elias to 10 years imprisonment on count 3 and 4 but the two sentences will run concurrently,and he must refund the sum of N51.5 million to Adamawa state Local Government joint account fund from where it was stolen.The judge also ordered the Corporate Affairs Commission {CAC} to wind up Al-Akim Investment Limited and have its assets forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.Justice Aliyu said the Judgement will serve as a  deterrent to public office holders who may want to divert public funds for personal benefit.One more photo below.
