S. A: FOUR PEOPLE HAVE DIED AFTER A CAR WAS SWEPT AWAY AT AN OVERFLOWING BRIDGE IN THE MAKOTOPONG RIVER NEAR SEBAYENG.(PHOTO).
Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. Yesterday monday the Nigerian Police at about 6:pm in Kogi state,Police patrol team while returning to base from day duty highway patrol,on reaching Oziokutu in Adavi Local Government Area stopped and searched an ash coloured Nissan Almera car with Registration number.Kogi LKJ 01 MW.The four {4} occupants of the vehicle suddenly stopped the vehicle and ran away when they saw the police vehicle approaching.The police recovered from the abandoned vehicles area one {1} AK-47 rifle with breech No.56-2.400577 with three {3} rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition,one {1} pump action gun with four {4} live cartridges and four {4} black masks.Recovered items were taken to the Police Station and the case is still under investigation.The Minister of Infformation Alhaji Lai Mohammed pays Police Force Headquarters in Abuja a visit today tuesday.More photos below.
