 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. A FEMALE STUDENT WAS ROBBED IN FRONT OF A BANK,YESTERDAY IN DELTA STATE.

                          On the 22nd of February,2016 at 03:45pm,one Nengi Ayebainaemi,aged 22 years,a student of Novena University Deltaa state,Amai was robbed of her bag containing the sum of N200,000 cash,her GSM phones and other belongings.The incident occurred in front of GT Bank,Abraka Delta state by a three man armed robbery gang operating in a Toyota Camry car with Reg.No.KPE 694 HB,colour gold and headed towards Warri Delta State.They were given a hot chase by the Police patrol team and at Oviere-Ovu Village the hoodlums alighted from the vehicle and ran into the bush.They engagd the patrol team in a gun duel and in the process,one Abel Omagboruko,aged 27 years,of Igun Village who was fatally wounded was arrested and a cut to size double barrel gun,the victim's GSM phone,and N42,000 cash which is part of the money robbed was recovered from the suspects.On further search of the bush and with the assistance of vigilante,one Oke  {last name unknown},a member of the gang was found dead while the third suspect is still at large.The two robbers were identified by the victim while the wounded robber identified the dead hoodlum as one of his cohorts.It was later revealed that the Toyota Camry,the hoodlum's operational vehicle which they abandoned was snatched from the owner at Orerokpe prior to the robbery.Investigation is still in progress.One more photo below.
