 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.                      Following the Resolution reached by the Lagos State House of Assembly on the illegal and dangerous activities of faceless recruitment agencies/organizations,the Lagos State Government hereby urges Lagosians to be wary of dubious outfits that are fraudulently seeking patronage from unsuspecting job seekers.A release today by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy,Mr Steve Ayorinde,stated that the Government is worried by the increasing activities of unscrupulous individuals and organizations,employing various tactics to advertise for phony job placement and in the course take advantage of unsuspecting innocent citizens.While reaffirming the present administration's commitment to improve security and protect lives and properties of all residents,the Commissioner warns criminally minded individuals and organizations to desist from these despicable acts as anyone caught will be prosecuted according to the Law.The release also urged the residents to always ascertain the genuineness of all job advertisement and patronize only those that can be traced and verified to be authentic.It would be recalled that the House of Assembly,in a Resolution passed recently,called for public sensitization and awareness on activities of illegal organizations seeking patronage for non-existing jobs and defrauding innocent people in the process.Meanwhile,Governor Ambode pays condolence visit to the first military Governor of Lagos state,Brigadier General Mobolaji Johnson {RTD} over his wife's demise.May her soul rest in peace,Amen.More photos below
