 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ABOUT 14 DEAD,OVER 70 PEOPLE INJURED TODAY,AFTER INDIA KOLKATA FLYOVER,COLLAPSED.

                      According to sources,at 14 people are dead,many people are feared trapped under the concrete and steel bridge which fell on a busy road today in India.Images show residents using their bare hands to help the rescue effort.The accident took place in an area near Girish Park,one of Kolkata's most densely populated neighbourhoods,with narrow lanes,shops and houses built close together.The 1.2 mile floyover has been under construction since 2009 and missed several deadlines for completion.At least 70 injured have been taken to the hospital and the army and national disaster agency in India have joined the rescue operation,which has been hampered by difficulties in getting ambulance and other vehicles close to the site.Some eye witnesses said every night,hundreds of labourers would build the flyover and they would cook and sleep near the site by day.India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi,who is in Washington for an official visit,tweeted that he was ''Shocked and saddened.My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives in Kolkata.May the injured recover at the earliest''.More photos below.
