 GOVERNOR ABBA  YUSUF SACKS  KANO STATE HEAD OF SERVICE   The Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has relieved the State Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his appointment with immediate effect. In a statement  by the Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the decision is part of the ongoing efforts by the present administration to reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery across all government institutions. Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service for his contributions and dedication to the service of the State  The statement further directed that Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary, Admin and General Services at the Cabinet Office, to serve in an  acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service. ABOUT 14 DEAD,OVER 70 PEOPLE INJURED TODAY,AFTER INDIA KOLKATA FLYOVER,COLLAPSED.

                      According to sources,at 14 people are dead,many people are feared trapped under the concrete and steel bridge which fell on a busy road today in India.Images show residents using their bare hands to help the rescue effort.The accident took place in an area near Girish Park,one of Kolkata's most densely populated neighbourhoods,with narrow lanes,shops and houses built close together.The 1.2 mile floyover has been under construction since 2009 and missed several deadlines for completion.At least 70 injured have been taken to the hospital and the army and national disaster agency in India have joined the rescue operation,which has been hampered by difficulties in getting ambulance and other vehicles close to the site.Some eye witnesses said every night,hundreds of labourers would build the flyover and they would cook and sleep near the site by day.India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi,who is in Washington for an official visit,tweeted that he was ''Shocked and saddened.My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives in Kolkata.May the injured recover at the earliest''.More photos below.
