TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. Senate President Bukola Saraki,who met with Senator Biodun Olujimi and Senator Bwacha today morning before plenary to find mutual ground on GEO Bill wrote on his social media that Yesterday tuesday ''We discussed the Doimestication of the Provisions of the United Nations Convention Eliminating all forms of discrimination against women under A bill For Act To Incorporate and Enforce Certain Provisions of the United Nations Convention On The Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women-the protocol to the African Charter on Human and People's Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa,and other Matters Connected Therewith.As i said during the International Womens Day last week,i am of the opinion that there are substantial parts of the bill that are crucial to the development of our nation such as the Equal Access to Education,strengthening of the laws on Violence against Women,Ending Abduction of girls,Sustenance and Promotion of Entrepreneurship opportunities,Genger Mainstreaming and Gender equality,female participation in governance,among others.Unfortunately,the bill suffered a slight set back because there were some parts of the Bill that some Senators disagreed with along the lines of religion and tradition.The beauty of democracy is that it gives us the opportunity to consider different opinions and this bill can still be represented and reconsidered on the floor of the Senate.I have it on good authority that Senator Biodun Olujimi who introduced this bill will reintroduce it after re-drafting that were expressed on the floor of the Senate''.More photos below.
