 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.             The America Consul General in Lagos,Mr John Bray,has described Lagos as a peaceful place to visit for tourists during a recent tour of Old Lagos with other staff of the American Consulate,noting that the rationale behind the tour is to learn more about Lagos,the people,culture and landmarks.The Consular General team visited the Oba's Palace at Iga Idungaran,the Lagos Central Mosque,the Cathedral Church of Christ,the National Museum,the Holy Cross Catholic Church,Tafawa Balewa Square and the Freedom Park.At the Palace of the Oba of Lagos the team was received by his Royal Majesty Oba Riliwanu Bababtunde Akiolu,CFR,who enlightened them on the rich and unique history of pre-colonial Lagos,the indigenes and the Culture.The Kabiyesi however solicited for the assistance of United States and other world leaders in helping the country at this crucial stage of her development,adding that the international community need to support the Federal Government in its anti corruption campaign.While maintaining that the international community must support Nigeria development initiatives for an enduring and lasting democracy,Akiolu commended the past effort and usual cooperation of the United States Embassy especially for the respect accorded traditional institutions and the State Government at all times.Responding,Mr John Bray expressed his happiness to the Oba for the warm reception accorded his team and for the tour of the Palace as well as the vicinity which gave them the opportunity to interact and exchange pleasantries with members of the community especially children.
