  The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Rivers State Police Command, demanding a public apology for the assault on five journalists during a peaceful protest in Port Harcourt. Failure to comply, the union warned, would result in a statewide media blackout. In a statement jointly signed by Council Chairman Comrade Paul Bazia and Secretary Dr. Ijeoma Tubosia, the NUJ condemned the police actions as “unprovoked, barbaric, and inhuman,” calling for the immediate identification and prosecution of the officers involved. “The NUJ, as a watchdog of society, will not sit idly by while media practitioners are subjected to barbarism and brutality. LIONEL MESSI,SENTENCED TO 21 MONTHS IN PRISON TODAY FOR TAX FRAUD LIKEWISE HIS FATHER.{PHOTOS}.

                          Today wednesday,Argentina and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud.According to BBC,his father,Jorge Messi,was also given a jail term for defrauding Spain of £3.5 million {$4.5m} between 2007 and 2009.They are also facing millions of euros in fines for using tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights.However,neither of them is expected to serve time in jail.Under the Spanish system,prison terms of under two years can be served under probation.The footballer and his father were found guilty of three counts of tax  fraud in wednesday's ruling by the court in Barcelona.As well as the jail terms,Messi was fined about £2m and his father £1.5m.They made a voluntary £5m ''corrective payment'',equal to the alleged unpaid tax plus interest,in August 2013.The sentence can be be appealed against via the Spanish Supreme court.More photos below.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
