Okpalauzuegbu fondly known as Chuma, had been preparing to celebrate his wedding ceremony, an event filled with hope, promise and carefully laid plans. American-born Nigerian professional rower,Chierika Ukogu made history yesterday tuesday after qualifying for the semi-finals of rowing at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympics.The 23 year old Stanford graduate and soon to be medical student to the rowing semi-finals came in fifth in the third quarter final of the Women's single sculls in 7:54.44 secs.She is Nigeria's first ever rower in the Olympics to have got that far,the semi-finals will be on wednesday.''Heading into Rio,it's a really wonderful opportunity for Nigeria.This is the first time we've had an athlete at the Olympics in the sport of Rowing'',said Okungu to the Press.More photos below.
