 Al Qaeda-linked insurgents establish check points around capital, call on Malians to rise up Al Qaeda-linked insurgents have called on Malians to ‌rise up against the military-led government and transition to Sharia law, as multiple security sources said the group had set up checkpoints around the capital and seized a northern town. The latest incidents come just days after Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) launched unprecedented assaultsacross the country ​on April 25 in coordination with the Tuareg-dominated rebel group the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA). Bases throughout the landlocked African ​country and near the capital Bamako were hit in those attacks, which killed Mali's defence minister. ⁠The town of Kidal was also seized. EFCC ARRAIGNS EDO DEPUTY GOVERNOR'S BROTHER FOR N9.3 MILLION FRAUD.{PHOTO}.

                                                   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC,yesterday monday October 17,2016,arraigned one Joseph Ovbokhan Odubu and his company,Even Handed Services Limited before Justice P.I Ajooku of the Federal High Court,sitting in Benin,Edo State on a 3 count charge bordering on forgery,uttering and obtaining money by false presence to the tune of Nine Million Three Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira {N9,360,000.00}.Though when the charges where read to him,he pleaded not guilty.In view of his plea,the prosecution counsel,C.A okoli asked the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial and that the accused person be remanded in prison custody.However,counsel to the defendant,Osama Idehen made an oral application for bail which was refused by the court as she was asked to file a formal application.Justice Ajoku adjourned the case to November 22,2016 for trial and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.
