 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Image result for adichie                  Nigerian international writer/author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie spoke to New York Times about President Muhammadu Buhar.She starts off by saying that she welcoomed his election in 2015,especially as it signalled a peaceful and democratic transfer of power.But that optimism is now gone and she says Mr Buhari missed his chance to change Nigeria.Ms Adiche attacks his initial policy of trying to support the currency,the naira,in the face of the overwhelming pressure for it to be devalued.She is also critical of the attempt to ban the import of certain goods.''His intentions,good as they well might be,are rooted in an outdated economic model and an infantile view of Nigerians.For him,it seems,patriotism is not a voluntary and flexible thing,with room for dissent,but a martial enterprise: to obey without questioning,'' she said.She also discusses the insecurity in the country and the perception in the south of the country ''that he promotes a northern Sunni Muslim agenda''.Overall,she says ''There is an ad hoc air to the government that does not inspire that vital ingredient for a stable economy: confidence''.
