 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LAGOS STATE GOVT,ASSURES FARMERS TODAY OF ADEQUATE SECURITY.{READ}.

No automatic alt text available.                The Lagos State Government has assured farmers in the State of government's readiness to tackle the scourge of kidnapping by providing adequate security to ensure safety of lives and property.
This assurance was given today by the State Deputy Governor,Dr Idiat Adebule,who represented the Governor during a meeting with representatives of farmers and community leaders of Igbodu/Isiwo axis of Epe area of Lagos who had staged a peaceful protest to the Governor's Office to demand government's intervention in the area.
Adebule expressed her displeasure with the development,stating that in spite of government's effort to make the State safe and livable for residents and investors,some unscrupulous persons still engage in criminal activities in order to make life difficult for their fellow human beings.''Let me assure you that the State Government is not resting on its oars.We are doing all we can to guarantee the safety of lives and restore peace in the area.Currently,the State government is speaking with the Federal Government to see how they can work with us to combat the problems of insecurity because we cannot do it alone.We sympathise with you and we beg for your understanding.I will relay your complaints to Governor Ambode for further and appropriate action on the matter,'' Adebule said.
Mr Ayokunle Ore,a spokesperson for the group said that their farms had been under sustained attacks by kidnappers since September 2016 and urged the State Government to seek the support of the Federal Government to extend the mandate of the Joint Taskforce {JTF} to Igbodu/Isiwo axis of Epe to curtail the high rate of kidnapping in the area.While thanking the State Government for finding time to meet with them,he pleaded that the issue of kidnapping in the area needs to be handled as a matter of urgency as their investments have been going down the drain and their lives at risk.
In his words: ''With the desire to contribute our quota to national food security and sufficiency,we have invested our lifetime savings and borrowings from banks to establish farms in the agricultural belt.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
