 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. Speaking at a ceremony organised by Hope for Women in Nigeria initiative {HOFOWEM} for the presentation of scholarship award letters to two students-Oluwadare Caroline Omolola and Afolabi Olakunle Felix,Mrs Ambode noted that coming from a humble background was never a limitation for a serious student,as hard work would pay off with outstanding success in future.
She said,''I urge you lucky recipients of the HOFOWEM Scholarship Award and indeed all students of tertiary institutions,to put in your best in academic studies,as that remains the surest way to achieve your dreams''.Mrs Ambode disclosed that the HOFOWEM Scholarship Award was in line with HOFOWEM's ideal,to give hope to underprivileged children by encouraging their educational pursuits,adding that it was instituted to sponsor brilliant indigent students from Lagos State public secondary,to pursue first degree courses in Nigeria universities.She disclosed that over 100 applications were received online and all candidates were considered on equal basis with no bias for background and judged independently on the basis of the applicant's ability to meet the criteria outlined under the terms and conditions of the award.Mrs Ambode revealed that the successful candidates would enjoy the payment of tuition fee,monthly maintenance allowance,book and incidental allowances for the duration of their courses.More photos below.
