 Senate Approves Death Penalty For Drug Traffickers The Senate has approved the death penalty for those convicted on the charge of drug trafficking in the country. The punishment prescribed in the extant NDLEA Act is a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The resolution of the Senate followed its consideration of a report of the Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters and Drugs and Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights & Legal Matters presented the report during plenary, Sen.Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno North). The bill, which passed its third reading, aims to update the list of dangerous drugs, strengthen the operations of the NDLEA, review penalties, and empower the establishment of laboratories.  Image result for chimamanda ngozi adichie americanah              The book ''Americanah'' by Nigerian famous writer Chimanmanda Ngozi-Adichie just won the ''One Book,One New York''campaign by the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and BuzzFeed.The office said today monday that New Yorkers cast their ballots for the book throughout February and said they wanted millions of residents to read it.It stated that the voting which took place in February,were both online and at Interactive digital kiossks on subway platforms.The office added that ''finally,Americanah was the book most New Yorkers wanted to read,as 50,000 voters who participated in the #OneBookNY campaign voted for it''.It explained that New Yorkers were encouraged to form their own book clubs and discussions around the book,which detailed the story of a Nigerian couple that left military-rule Nigeria.The office said Americanah centred around two young Nigerian lovers who departed for different cities in the Western wworld and later reunited in a democratic Nigeria.Congratulation to her.
