 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Image may contain: 1 person, close-up                  The Senator representing Osun West,Isiaka Adeleke,is dead.Mr Adeleke,aged 62,died today sunday morning at a hospital in Osogbo,the Osun State capital,hours after he engaged in a political meeting which terminated late Saturday.Until his death,Mr Adeleke Chaired the Senate committee on capital market.He was in the Senate for the second time,having first represented Osun West between 2007 and 2011 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.He could not return to the Senate in 2011,after he was defeated by Mudashiru Hussein of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria.But in 2014,after a failed governorship bid,he defected to the All Progressives Congress which sponsored him to contest the 2015 Osun West senatorial election which he won to earn a second time in the Senate.Mr Adeleke became the first elected Governor of Odun State in 1991 on the platform of the Social Democratic Party.He sponsored a bill to protect whostleblowers and security informants.May his soul rest in peace.
