S. A: FOUR PEOPLE HAVE DIED AFTER A CAR WAS SWEPT AWAY AT AN OVERFLOWING BRIDGE IN THE MAKOTOPONG RIVER NEAR SEBAYENG.(PHOTO).

 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. Image may contain: 1 person               The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC on May 16,2017 arraigned the duo of Murtala Salisu,Acting Director,Works,Gombe State University,Sanusi Sani Abdulihi,Director,Engineering Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe and SST Nig.Ltd before Justice B.L Iliya of the Gombe State High Court on an eight count charge bordering on diversion of public funds and abuse of office to the tune of N19million.Their arraignment followed a petion to EFCC,Gombe Zonal office by concerned staff of the Gombe State University alleging that the accused persons fraudulently manipulated and issued contract awards letters especially on consulting job which was suppose to be issued by the registrar of the University.It was also alleged that contracts emanating from Tetfund including special intervention and NEED's Assessment were strictly awarded to cronies and friends of the accused without following due process.After thorough investigation by the EFCC,it was discovered that the first accused,Salisu,received various sum of money as gratification from the second accused,Sanusi,for the contract executed by the third accused,SST Nig.Ltd at the Gmbe State University.Abdullahi is the sole signature and promoter of SST Nig.Ltd,a clear violation of public service regulations which forbid ownership of private business by serving public officers.In view of their pleas,the prosecution counsel A.M. Labaran applied for a date for trial.While adjourning the case to 22nd June,2017,Justice Iliya granted bail to all the accused persons in N5m each and two sureties in like sum.The sureties according to the judge,must have landed property with Certificate of Occupancy with the jurisdiction of the court.One more photo below.
