Man brutalises his pregnant wife in Anambra In another case of domestic violence, a pregnant woman was brutally beaten by her husband in Ichi, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State. The mother of three identified as Chinelo Francis, from Ebonyi State, said trouble began when she requested money from her husband, Peter, to prepare food. According to the young woman, she had already bought vegetable with the profit she made from her shop. Peter, also from Ebonyi, claimed he didn’t make money that day and took the children home. He returned to her shop at around 8:00 PM and insisted she close up and come home with him. She refused, explaining that the time was when she typically made most of her sales. Later, she closed up her shop, went home at 9:30 PM, prepared the children for bed, and retired. The interviewer urged her to go straight to the point, asking when the assault occurred. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC on May 16,2017 arraigned the duo of Murtala Salisu,Acting Director,Works,Gombe State University,Sanusi Sani Abdulihi,Director,Engineering Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe and SST Nig.Ltd before Justice B.L Iliya of the Gombe State High Court on an eight count charge bordering on diversion of public funds and abuse of office to the tune of N19million.Their arraignment followed a petion to EFCC,Gombe Zonal office by concerned staff of the Gombe State University alleging that the accused persons fraudulently manipulated and issued contract awards letters especially on consulting job which was suppose to be issued by the registrar of the University.It was also alleged that contracts emanating from Tetfund including special intervention and NEED's Assessment were strictly awarded to cronies and friends of the accused without following due process.After thorough investigation by the EFCC,it was discovered that the first accused,Salisu,received various sum of money as gratification from the second accused,Sanusi,for the contract executed by the third accused,SST Nig.Ltd at the Gmbe State University.Abdullahi is the sole signature and promoter of SST Nig.Ltd,a clear violation of public service regulations which forbid ownership of private business by serving public officers.In view of their pleas,the prosecution counsel A.M. Labaran applied for a date for trial.While adjourning the case to 22nd June,2017,Justice Iliya granted bail to all the accused persons in N5m each and two sureties in like sum.The sureties according to the judge,must have landed property with Certificate of Occupancy with the jurisdiction of the court.One more photo below.
