NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC on May 16,2017 arraigned the duo of Murtala Salisu,Acting Director,Works,Gombe State University,Sanusi Sani Abdulihi,Director,Engineering Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe and SST Nig.Ltd before Justice B.L Iliya of the Gombe State High Court on an eight count charge bordering on diversion of public funds and abuse of office to the tune of N19million.Their arraignment followed a petion to EFCC,Gombe Zonal office by concerned staff of the Gombe State University alleging that the accused persons fraudulently manipulated and issued contract awards letters especially on consulting job which was suppose to be issued by the registrar of the University.It was also alleged that contracts emanating from Tetfund including special intervention and NEED's Assessment were strictly awarded to cronies and friends of the accused without following due process.After thorough investigation by the EFCC,it was discovered that the first accused,Salisu,received various sum of money as gratification from the second accused,Sanusi,for the contract executed by the third accused,SST Nig.Ltd at the Gmbe State University.Abdullahi is the sole signature and promoter of SST Nig.Ltd,a clear violation of public service regulations which forbid ownership of private business by serving public officers.In view of their pleas,the prosecution counsel A.M. Labaran applied for a date for trial.While adjourning the case to 22nd June,2017,Justice Iliya granted bail to all the accused persons in N5m each and two sureties in like sum.The sureties according to the judge,must have landed property with Certificate of Occupancy with the jurisdiction of the court.One more photo below.
