 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. UPDATE ON A BOY ARRESTED BY POLICE IN ASABA,DELTA STATE.{PHOTO}.

No automatic alt text available.                                                    The Facts of the case: On Saturday,13 May,2017 at about 5:35pm a Mother {name withheld} to 'B' Division Police Station Asaba,Delta State and reported that one of her female neighbours name {withheld} came with her 13 year old son {referred to as 9yr-old Clinton in the viral post} to her shop.That the said neighbour ordered 13yr-old Clinton to slap her own 9yr-old son which Clinton did and also damaged goods worth N2,450 in her shop.{Attached is photo Extract from Crime Diary of the Incident as recorded by 'B' Division Asaba}.
Findings: A case of Assult and malicious damaged was lodged against 13yr-old,Clinton and his Mother.The said Clinton is a Jss 3 Student of a Secondary School in the area and not a 9yr-old boy.
The said Clinton was invited to the Police Station first on the very Saturday the case was reported based on his involvement in the incident as ordered by his mother and allowed to returned home immediately,he was then taken back to the police station on Sunday 14th May,2017 in the morning.Clinton's Father was at the police station Sunday morning {14.5.2017} and pleaded with the other party for an amicable settlement which both parties agreed.Clinton's father give the complainant the sum of N2,000 to cover damaged goods.Clinton's mother who is also a party to the assault and malicious damage case is still in hiding.
WHY PCRRU SAYS CASE IS FALSE;
 Is the said Clinton a 9yrs old boy? No,he is a 14yr-old JSS 3 Student {Name of Secondary School Withheld}.
Was Clinton arrested because his mother fled police arrest? No,He was taken to police stattion upon a report made against him and his mother by a 9yr-old boy assault victim.Clinton stated that 9yr-old complainant.This assault and malicious damage has been corroborated by independent witnesses at the scene.
Was Clinton detained at the 'B' Division Police station,Asaba? No,he was only taken to the station for questioning and warned to be of good behaviour/never assault another kid even when told by his mother to do so.His father was present with him at the police station all through.Clinton's father left the police station with him thereafter.The Nigeria Police Force 'B' Division Asaba,Delta State were carrying out their responsibility as provided under the law.
Parents are advised not to encourage their children to physically assault other persons especially other kids.''Activists'' are also urged to accurately report all sides of policing activities and desist from spreading false information as a strategy to attract popularity and donor support for their 'organization''.
