𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐨 𝐁𝐚𝐠 𝐏𝐡𝐃 𝐈𝐧 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐀𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐕𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 A Nigerian woman, Oluwami Dosunmu-Ogunbi, has made history as the first black woman to bag a PhD in Robotics at the University of Michigan in the United States. Speaking at the university's College of Engineering convocation, Dosunmu-Ogunbi, a daughter of Nigerian immigrants, spoke on the support she received in realising her aspirations. She said, "I do not stand here on my own two feet alone. None of us got here by our individual merit alone, whether it be teacher, friends, family, mentors, or role models, we each have one or multiple people to whom we are grateful for making this moment possible." She added that she wants to be remembered as the University of Michigan's first black woman to get a PhD in Robotics and she wants to use her knowledge in engineering to improve the lives of others. Abdulsalami Abubakar,on his 75th birthday,today June 13,2017.Prof Osinbajo joins the family and friend of General Abubakar in celebrating this significant milestone,noting that his life has been marked by a distinguished career in the military and a remarkable role in the political history of our country.Acting President Osinbajo recalls how in 1999 General Abubakar successfully chaperoned the democratic transition from military rule in Nigeria,and commends his determination and forthright resolve that ended 16 years of military dictatorship.More recently,according to the Acting Pressident,General Abubakar's contributions and intervention in midwifing a peaceful transition from a ruling party to an oppostion party after the 2015 elections,reflects his deep sense of patriotism,service to nation and commitment to Nigeria's progress and development.The Acting President also extols the readiness of the former Head of State in accepting to serve as United Nations and African Union's envoy promoting peace and good governance in Africa.Prof. Osinbajo belives the elder statesman has etched his name in the annals of history of Nigeria,with his penchant for peace and the development of Nigeria and Africa.The Acting President prays that the almighty God will grant General Abubakar longer life,good health,and as his days are,so shall his favor,wisdom and strength with God be.
