 India-bound brothers arrested at Lagos airport with 5kg cocaine in walls of suitcases . As NDLEA intercepts UK techie with large consignment of Loud at MMIA; nabs 75-year-old grandpa with skunk in Abia; destroys over 250,000kg cannabis in Cross River community Operatives of a Special Operations Unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested two brothers: John Abugu, 43, and Kenneth Abugu, 31, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja, Lagos with 5kilograms cocaine concealed in walls of their suitcases while attempting to board a flight to India. The two brothers were arrested at the Lagos airport on Thursday 3rd April 2025 following proactive processing of credible intelligence. They claimed they were travelling to India for medical treatment but when their suitcases were thoroughly searched by NDLEA officers, whitish powdery substances later confirmed to be cocaine were discovered on the walls of their bags.         Ā· IGP Deploys Special Police Force, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Squad, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Intelligent Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, Force Intelligence Branch and Police Helicopters to root out Kidnappers and Armed Robbers on Abuja-Kaduna Highway
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris NPM, mni concerned with the occurrence of cases of Kidnappings in the recent times on Abuja-Kaduna Highway, has deployed a Joint Police Team comprising Special Police Force, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Squad, Anti-Kidnapping Units, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, the Force Intelligence Branch, the Police Mobile Force with Headquarters at Rijanah, Kaduna State. The Joint Police Team are under specific and definite mandate to root out the kidnap for ransom gangs and armed robbery gangs that have being terrorising the Abuja-Kaduna Highway in the recent times.
2. The operations is to complement and augment the on-going Joint Police/Military operations on ground before now.
3. To achieve success of the operations Absolute sanity, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations has been mandated to supervise the operation as overall Commander while the Deputy Commissioner of Police, In-Charge of the Police Mobile Force is the Grand Commander of the Operations. The Police personnel will be proactive and work on actionable Intelligence at the disposal of the Force and carry out massive deployment and twenty four (24) hours surveillance and patrol, continuous raids of identified and other suspected hideouts of the kidnappers with a view to arresting them promptly before they attack innocent people. They will also nip in the bud other violence crimes such as armed robbery, car snatching etc on Abuja-Kaduna.
4. Police Helicopters will embark on aerial surveillance and guided missions to assist the operation Absolute Sanityā€™s personnel on the ground in covering difficult terrains.

5. The Inspector General of Police hereby urges members of the public, most especially commuters, travellers, road users and people in the towns and villages along Abuja-Kaduna Highway not to panic on the mass deployment of Police personnel, but to assist and cooperate with the Police personnel in the discharge of their responsibilities.
