 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Image may contain: one or more people and people sitting                                                According to the passengers, they were travelling from Ekwulobia to UNIZIK temporary site, Awka when the unfortunate incident occured.
The driver was said to look very healthy, lively and communicating with the passengers but when they got to By-Pass junction, along Enugu Agidi Rd, Amawbia, the said driver started bleeding from the mouth and nose with white mucous and foam coming out of his mouth which was eventually followed by blood.
With the help of the passenger in the front seat, the bus was put to a halt. The driver whose name could not be ascertained in press time bled for few a mins and died immediately. His entire body and cheeks was said to have shrunk immediately after his death. The startled passengers scurried out of the bus via any possible means (some from the windows and other from the boot of the bus).
"He was indeed a jovial man. He quarreled with some of us because of change. We exchanged words with him after which he diverted the quarrel to making jokes. He looked healthy. We never expected something like this", one of the passengers narrated at the scene of the incident.Some onlookers at the scene of the incident rumored that it was due to food poisoning, but the cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.Sympathizers were seen around the bus in shock with some crying at the scene!.More photos below.
