 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.        Suspected ritualist and UNIPORT Undergraduate, Ifeanyi Dike, who was recently rearrested in Jos after escaping from a Police Station in Port-Harcourt has finally revealed the motive behind the act.
Ifeanyi was first arrested as he tried to dispose off the body of 8-year-old Victory Chikqmso, whom he allegedly kidnapped, raped and murdered. Speaking to newsmen, Ifeanyi revealed that he escaped to Jos from Port Harcourt through a trailer that loaded goods to Jos.“I came to Jos on August 21, 2017 because I was trying to run away from the alleged ritual offense I was said to have committed, but I am not a ritual killer.
I only had sex with the girl and cut off her body while trying to escape from the environment, but I am not a ritual killer,” he said. .
Ifeanyi who was rearrested after he tried robbing a house in Barkin Ladi he talked about his reason for trying to steal from the house saying: “I thought it was an abandoned house because I was looking for a place to hide so that people will not identify me, but unfortunately the owner was in the house and he raised alarm then I was arrested.”
