 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. TWO KIDNAPPERS KILLED WHILE TRYING TO COLLECT N20M RANSOM IN OBOSI ANAMBRA STATE ON 13-10-2017.{PHOTOS}.

      Gentlemen of the press, I welcome you all to this press conference today 13th October, 2017. 
The purpose of this briefing is to intimate you on our recent exploits in the Command. The Police Command has successfully clamped down on criminals hide out. 
ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS AND RESCUE OF VICTIM: On 11th October, 2017 at about 2000hrs one Nnamdi Ibru 'm' aged, 32yrs was kidnapped in a filling station at Obosi by four armed hoodlums. Twenty Million Naira was demanded as ransom, effective intelligence gathering and cooperation from members of the public. Police detectives attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Command (SARS) trailed them as they were coming to collect the ransom today 13/10/2017. As the hoodlums got wind that the Police was trailing them they attacked police. The Police shot two of kidnappers died while other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds. The victim was rescued with bullet wounds on the shoulder and the leg.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include;
* One locally made barrel pistol with two live cartridges
* One cut to size single barrel gun
* One XQ 1000 GSM handset belonging to the victim
* One unregistered Q-link motorcycle
