Lagos is an open canvas for creative mind and the canoes will always be there in our hearts to keep bringing in creativity. The design of this art work is premised on the use of canoe to represent each local government within Lagos State. The Lagos Communities are made up of 57 canoes, depicting the 20 Local Government Areas and the 37 Local Council Development Areas with their maps carefully designed on individual canoes. The beauty of Lagos is in her hospitality and acceptability of people from other culture and background, hence, the intentional clustered arrangement of the canoes. The upright positioning of the canoes is inspired by the skyline of Lagos as a city and a successful metropolis. Aside being an art installation, it also acts as archival material documenting the map of Lagos.More photos below.
