A Lagos State School and Two Administrators have emerged winners in three, out of nine categories at the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards contest among participants from 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Eagle Square, Abuja, the representative of President Muhammad Buhari and Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu noted that the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards (PTSEA) was introduced as part of the on-going reform programme of the government to motivate teachers and schools to improve productivity in the education sector in the country.
He said the initiative aims to recognise and reward deserving public schools, their teachers and administrators; institutionalize productivity consciousness and excellence in service amongst teachers, administrators and schools in the public education sector and to identify, encourage and motivate teachers, administrators and schools for excellence in the delivery of quality education in Nigeria.
Reacting to the feat attained by the teachers, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule congratulated Ojodu Junior Grammar School, Ikeja for winning the the Best School Award; Mrs. Oluderu Bilikisu Oluwaseyi of Magbon Alade Senior Grammar School for the Best School Administrator Award, Senior Secondary School category and Mrs. Adelegan Moronike Sarat of Civil Service Junior Model College, Igbogbo for the award received in the Junior Secondary School category.
She said they have made Lagos State proud for winning three out of a nine categories available to all schools nationwide, adding that the feat is recognition of the hard work and diligence of the teachers and appreciation of the huge investment of the State Government in the education sector.
Adebule, however, admonished the awardees not to rest on their oars while calling on others to up their games because Lagos State Teachers were capable of sweeping the entire nine awards that were up for grabs.
She recalled that the President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Micheal Alogba-Olukoya had also named Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as the most Teachers’ friendly governor of the Y2017. This, She attributed to the creation of an enabling teaching and learning environment and prioritizing teachers’ training, welfare and reward of excellence.
The Y2017 Lagos State Merit Award, she promised will identify, celebrate and reward hard work in many more categories in the education sector.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Mrs. Oluderu Bilikisu commended the Lagos State Government for giving due recognition to the service that teachers render in the State.She, therefore, implored the Ambode-led administration to continue the pursuit of creating an enabling learning environment in all public schools in the State as well as improving the education sector.
