 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ANAMBRA: MYSTERIOUS FIRE BURNS LADY+CONSUMES MULTI-MILLION NAIRA PROPERTY.

         One Miss Oluchukwu Okoro was on Wednesday burnt to ashes and multi-million properties destroyed, when a mysterious fire outbreak occurred at No 90 Iweka Road Awada Layout Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The scene of the fire incident became a “Mecca” of sort, as people from far and near trooped to the three-storey building, to catch a glimpse of incident.
Eyewitness accounts have it that the fire outbreak was first noticed at about 6.00am around one of the last flour of the building, while children were preparing to go to school.
However, the cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained, as at the time of filling this report.
A tenant, who spoke off record, said the victim hails from Amator Isu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and has just returned from a burial at Nnewi the previous day, before the incident occurred.
The deceased was a trader dealing in orthodox medicines at Relief Main Market, Ogbaru Council Area of the State.
One of the victims of the fire incident, Mrs. Uche Oputa told newsmen that she lost N3.8million worth of property, while her neighbour lost N2.7million.
But, a woman, who lives in one of the flats, where the fire was suspected to have started, was reportedly placed on protective custody by the police from Awada Police Division on the alleged order of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, CSP Martins Mbajunwa.When contacted for comment, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO). CSP Martians Mbajunwa who led police teams to the scene of the incident confirmed the incident including the death of the lady but declined further comment.
