 Renowned 20th-century philosopher Jürgen Habermas dies at 96 Jürgen Habermas, the German philosopher widely recognized for his contributions to modern political thought and democratic theory, died Saturday in Starnberg, Germany, at the age of 96. His passing was confirmed in a statement by his Berlin-based publisher, Suhrkamp Verlag, which noted that Habermas’s work, translated into more than 40 languages, had left a lasting impact on global intellectual discourse. Jonathan Landgrebe, head of the publishing house, described him as “a significant philosopher, ever-present advisor, and dear friend.” For more than six decades, Habermas helped shape postwar and post-reunification German political life. He is best known for conceptualizing the “public sphere,” a domain for discussion free from state influence, which he argued is essential for a functioning democracy. FEDERAL MINISTRY OF YOUTH AND SPORTS BESTOWS AWARDS OF OUTSTANDING PREFORMANCES TO MEDAL WINNING NIGERIAN ARMY ATHLETES AND COACHES.{PHOTOS}.

     The Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, on friday at Abuja, held an awards night for national athletes who won laurels for the country at international Championships held in 2017. The ceremony took place today Friday 19th January 2018 at the Package A of the National Stadium Abuja amidst pomp and pageantry.
Three Nigerian Army Athletes and two coaches received awards for outstanding performances which were handed over to them by the Honourable Minister for Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalong. The athletes were; Private Tochukwu Okeke who won a Bronze Medal at the Senior African Wrestling Championship held at Marrakech, Morocco in April 2017, Private Winnie Gofit, who won a Gold Medal at the African Judo Championship held at Dakar, Senegal in November 2017 and Lance Corporal Yetunde Odunuga, who won a Silver Medal at the African Boxing Championship held at Congo-Brazzaville in June 2017.

The award winning coaches include Warrant Officer Miller Waribo for Judo and Staff Sergeant Umar Mohammed for boxing. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai has congratulated the athletes and coaches for the feats achieved and awards.
