 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LASG INDUCTS NEWLY RECRUITED FIREFIGHTERS.{PHOTOS}.


      Lagos State Government today inducted a set of newly trained 100 firefighters (squad 19) into the State Fire Service Department, with a charge to continue to uphold the motto of the Agency, “Proud Service to Save Humanity” through dedication and commitment.
Speaking at the induction/passing out parade held at the Fire Service Headquarters, Alausa- Ikeja, the State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Oluseye Oladejo who represented the State Governor at the event, said that the recruitment of the new officers became necessary to expand the operational frontiers of the Fire Service to meet the expectations of the people.He informed that the State Government has also repositioned the fire service to be able to effectively coordinate, receive and respond to fire outbreak across the State.Oladejo said that the State Fire Service has continued to receive an increased capacity boost with the establishment of additional fire stations at three different locations and the provision of modern firefighting equipment for its officers to help in addressing fire disasters and other emergencies in the State.“While we may not prevent disasters at all times, this government will continue to improve the capacity of our responders to help save lives and property of our people. We are establishing three new fire stations, with the one at Epe completed and commissioned while we also procure modern firefighting equipment to ensure adequate response to fire calls”, the Commissioner said.He enjoined Lagosians to be safety conscious and take cues from the enlightenment programme of the emergency agencies, so as to prevent avoidable disasters at all times, adding that safety should be everyone’s business and watchword.Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of the State Fire Service, Razak Fadipe stated that the new firemen had undergone months of training and drills on fire response and disaster management, stressing that they are ready to carry the responsibility of firefighting effectively across the State.He said the Squad 19 will be deployed to the various fire stations in the State where they will join a team of dedicated firemen to ensure that fire incidents in Lagos are promptly and efficiently responded to.The Director said the recruitment was in continuation of the tremendous transformation that the fire service has witnessed since the inception of the present administration.More photos below.
