 Drones hit east Congo's biggest city, killing French aid worker, rebels and UN say Drone strikes hit Goma in east Congo ​on Wednesday, killing at least three people including a French aid worker, the ‌first such attack in the city since AFC/M23 rebels seized it last year, according to the group and the U.N. The AFC/M23 blamed the attack on the Congolese army, saying in a post on X that Kinshasa ​had launched drones against a densely populated urban area in the lakeside city. A senior official for U.N. children's agency UNICEF told Reuters ​that one of its employees, a French national, was killed. French President Emmanuel Macron and Hadja Lahbib, ​European Commissioner for equality, preparedness and crisis management, condemned the attack in posts on X, calling for respect for international humanitarian law and saying aid workers must never be targeted.       His Excellency, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has expressed sympathy with the families of those who lost their lives and all others who lost valuable properties to the rainstorm that swept through Jalingo on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Governor Ishaku described the death of four persons in the natural disaster as unfortunate and regrettable.
He said problems arising from changes in weather have gradually become a global concern that need joint action by government, private sector and people to find enduring solutions.He assured that his administration will take all steps necessary to safeguard the environment against disasters of this nature in the state and advised the people to cooperate with government to make sure the successful implementation of programmes and policies that will reduce the impact of all forms of climatic changes that threaten our environment.He prayed God Almighty to grant the souls of the victims of the disaster eternal rest.
