 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

     Governor Samuel Ortom has commended the Benue State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, for using May Day to pray for victims of herdsmen attacks in the state.
Governor Samuel Ortom has commended the Benue State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, for using May Day to pray for victims of herdsmen attacks in the state.
The Governor made the commendation today while delivering a keynote address at the IBB Square Makurdi to mark the 2018 May Day with the theme: "Labour Movement in National Development: Dare to Struggle, Dare to Win."
He acknowledged the resilience and understanding of workers in the state in the face of irregular payment of salaries due to harsh economic realities, assuring that he would continue to give priority attention to their welfare.
While appreciating public spirited individuals, corporate organizations, civil society groups and the church for their various support to the displaced persons in the state, Governor Ortom said over 1000 military personnel led by seven generals had been deployed to curtail attacks on Benue communities.
In an address, Benue State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Godwin Anya, decried the invasion and massacre of innocent Benue citizens by militia herdsmen, saying they decided to dedicate the day to mourn the deceased.
While calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to deal decisively with the herdsmen attacks the way he gave a heavy blow to corruption and Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, the NLC Chairman said many workers in the state had lost their lives to herdsmen attacks on Benue communities.
In a protest by civil society groups against the invasion of the state, leader of the protesters, Pastor Dave Ogbole said the Federal Government had failed to provide security for lives and property and called for a full fledge military operation to flush out insurgents out of Benue.Pastors Fred Ikyaan of NKST High Level, Mike Angou, PFN Chairman Benue State, Christopher Adeyi of Zion Methodist Church High Level Makurdi and Moses Ugoo, all prayed God to cause confusion in the camps of the invaders and bring permanent peace in Benue.More photos below.
