 Death toll from Kenyan floods rises to 62, police say A total of 62 people including eight ​children have died since heavy rains ‌and flooding hit Kenya's capital Nairobi and other areas ​late last week, police ​said, Reuters reported. The capital ⁠was the worst hit ​with 33 deaths, the force ​said in a statement on X that updated the official tally ​of casualties. More than ​2,000 families have been displaced across ‌Kenya ⁠and intense rain was continuing in several regions, it added. Aid workers started pulling ​bodies ​from floodwaters ⁠across Nairobi last Saturday after overnight ​flash floods swept away ​dozens ⁠of cars and disrupted flights at East Africa's ⁠biggest ​airport. A tally issued ​last Sunday put the death toll ​at 42.

     The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, May 29, 2018 arraigned Dr. Abdu Bulama, Hon. Mohammed Kadai, Abba Gana Tata, Muhammad Mamu and Hassan Ibn Jaks before Justice Hammada Isa Dashen of the of Federal High Court, Damaturu, Yobe State on a-7 count charge for the offence of criminal conspiracy to commit Money Laundering to the tune of over N229, 000, 000.00 (Two Hundred and Twenty Nine Million Naira) only.
Dr. Bulama was a former Minister of Science and Technology during the regime of the previous government and the Coordinator of Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization, while Hon. Mohammed Kadai was a former Commissioner for Integrated and Rural Development in Yobe State and the Deputy Coordinator of Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization, Yobe State.
Their prosecution followed a petition to the Commission through intelligence report that the defendants agreed among themselves to make and receive cash payment above threshold outside financial institution. 
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the counts.
Counsel to the prosecution, Al’Qasim Ja’afar, thereafter, urges the court to fix a date for the commencement of their trial.
Justice Hammada Isa Dashen adjourned the matter to the 3rd July, 2018 for hearing of bail application and ordered the defendants to be remanded in the EFCC custody.More photos below.
