 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. GOV. ORTOM LAYS FOUNDATION FOR 100 BED MOTHER AND CHILD HOSPITAL.{PHOTOS}.

       Governor Samuel Ortom yesterday laid foundation for the construction of a 100 bed capacity Mother and Child specialized hospital to combat mother and child high mortality rate in the state.
He performed the ceremony at the premises of Government College Makurdi, the state capital.
The Governor noted that the hospital to be constructed was a product of collaboration and partnership with international and local partners, an initiative of his administration since coming on board.
He said through the partnership with donor agencies and development partners, many projects including skills acquisition centers, health care centers and classroom blocks among others had been executed and handed over to various communities in the state.
Governor Ortom said all the projects executed were due to the support of the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals in collaboration with his Special Advisor on SDGs and NEPAD.
According to him, the Mother and Child specialized hospital project was also a collaboration between the FG and Benue State government through the above offices, stressing that when completed, it would cater for the health needs of Benue women and children.
In a welcome address, Special Advisor to the Governor on SDGs and NEPAD, Dr. Mrs. Magdalene Dura said Governor Ortom had given her the mandate to bring in donor agencies and development partners and also followed it up with visits to various development agencies which had today metamorphosed into numerous projects.
Representative of the state Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Terna Kur, acknowledged the Governor's exploits in the health sub sector, saying they were second to none.
On his part, Chief Executive Officer of Technowell Company, Engr. Kayode Ajibode, who promised timely and quality execution of the project, said when completed, infant and mother mortality would be reduced to the barest minimum.In separate remarks, Chairman project implementation committee and Commissioner for Finance, Dr. David Olofu, Principal Government College Makurdi, Mr. Ephraim Chia as well as representative of the host community, Mr. Gwaza Ujamatu, all hailed the Governor for the gigantic project.More photos below.
