 BENUE ASSEMBLY PASSES FORESTRY, MINING COMMISSION BILL TO BOOST ECONOMY, ENVIRONMENT  The Benue State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill establishing a Forestry, Mines and Solid Minerals Commission, marking a significant step toward economic diversification and environmental protection. The move is expected to strengthen regulation in the state’s resource sector while addressing concerns around sustainability and local benefits. The bill scaled third reading during plenary presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga. It followed a detailed report by the House Committee on Lands, Survey, Solid Minerals, and Environment. Lawmakers say the new commission will coordinate the exploration and management of forest and mineral resources without clashing with federal agencies. MAN WITH BULLET WOUND FOUND DEAD IN RELIEF MARKET NEAR ONITSHA,ANAMBRA STATE.{PHOTO}.

    A 21-year-old man with suspected bullet injury has been found dead at the Relief Market, Okpoko, near Onitsha, Anambra State.
The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Nwankwo, a resident of New Estate, Oba, was said to have been found by a member of the market’s vigilance group, Charles Ene, on Tuesday.
Ene reportedly alerted the police, who came to the scene and took the victim to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
He said, “Nwankwo was certified dead by a medical doctor at the General Hospital, Onitsha, where he was taken to by police detectives attached to Okpoko division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ibrahim Jauro.”
Mohammed said the corpse had been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
The PPRO said preliminary investigation showed that Nwankwo was shot in the thigh, adding that expended ammunition was recovered from the scene.He said, “The Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.”
