 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. MAN WITH BULLET WOUND FOUND DEAD IN RELIEF MARKET NEAR ONITSHA,ANAMBRA STATE.{PHOTO}.

    A 21-year-old man with suspected bullet injury has been found dead at the Relief Market, Okpoko, near Onitsha, Anambra State.
The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Nwankwo, a resident of New Estate, Oba, was said to have been found by a member of the market’s vigilance group, Charles Ene, on Tuesday.
Ene reportedly alerted the police, who came to the scene and took the victim to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
He said, “Nwankwo was certified dead by a medical doctor at the General Hospital, Onitsha, where he was taken to by police detectives attached to Okpoko division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ibrahim Jauro.”
Mohammed said the corpse had been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
The PPRO said preliminary investigation showed that Nwankwo was shot in the thigh, adding that expended ammunition was recovered from the scene.He said, “The Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.”
