Water Crisis Deepens in Nasarawa Eggon as Residents Resort to Unsafe Sources Residents of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area in Nasarawa State are grappling with severe water scarcity, resorting to stagnant ponds and muddy pools for their daily needs due to the collapse of public water infrastructure. Communities now rely on contaminated water for drinking, cooking, and bathing, raising serious health concerns. Locals described the water as foul-smelling and visibly dirty, but said they have no alternatives. “We’ve not had tap water in over two months,” said Adefu Ruth, a resident of Angwan Kuje. “We’re forced to use this dirty water.” Despite the presence of elected officials and the Commissioner for Water Resources—an indigene of the area—residents say there has been no visible intervention. OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS: CHIEF OF THE AIR STAFF VISITS HEADQUARTERS OF OPERATION WHIRL STROKE, INDUCTS MI-35P HELICOPTER INTO THEATRE OF OPERATION .{PHOTO}.

     The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, in continuation of the series of visits being undertaken to assess and enhance the operational effectiveness of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) units across the country, on 23 June 2018, visited NAF units in Makurdi. The visit equally afforded the CAS the opportunity to visit the Headquarters of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) as well as interact with NAF personnel deployed for the operation. The Chairman House Committee on the Air Force, Honourable Samson Okwu, also accompanied the CAS on the visit. During the visit, the CAS and other senior officers were briefed by both the Joint Task Force Commander, Major General Adeyemi Yekini, and the Air Component Commander/Deputy Force Commander OPWS, Group Captain Precious Amadi. The briefing highlighted the successes recorded since the establishment of the Operation, which had led to a reduction in violence in the 3 states under the Force’s area of responsibility, namely Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba States.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
