 INEC to Display Candidate Lists for 2027 Governorship and Assembly Elections on Saturday The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Saturday, August 29, publish the lists of candidates nominated by political parties for the February 6, 2027, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections. Governorship elections will be held in 28 states, while state Houses of Assembly polls will take place in all 36 states of the federation. According to the electoral timetable, governorship elections are scheduled in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Kwara, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto states. No governorship elections will be conducted in Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Bayelsa, Anambra, Imo and Kogi states, where polls were held at different times under the staggered electoral cycle. ARREST OF MIYETTI ALLAH WILL END KILLINGS - ORTOM.{PHOTOS}.

     Governor Samuel Ortom says only the arrest and prosecution of the leadership of Miyetti Allah will stop herdsmen killings in Benue and Nigeria at large.
He spoke yesterday at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi while briefing the press after a courtesy call on him by the State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN led by its chairman, Rev. Akpen Leva.
The Governor described as baffling, a situation where the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore who owned up the January and sustained killings in the State on allegations that 1000 of their cattle were rustled could be walking the streets freely without arrest.
He further noted that more worrisome was the fact that those claiming to have masterminded the killings were appearing on television stations and other media houses desperately trying to change the narrative.
Governor Ortom said statements by the leadership of Miyetti Allah that Benue people were responsible for the killing of their kit and kin was tantamount to dancing on the graves and blood of those massacred by the militia herdsmen.
He reiterated his call for the arrest and prosecution of the leadership of Miyetti Allah for encouraging war and trying to cause division in the country, adding that if not checked, their actions could push the country into a state of anarchy.
During the courtesy call, Governor Ortom said he also briefed leadership of the church on the security situation in the state as well as his 2019 ambition among others and solicited their prayers for sustained peace in the state.Also speaking, CAN Chairman, Rev. Akpen Leva, pledged the support of the church to the administration of Governor Ortom, assuring that the church will remain with him throughout his trying times.More photos below.
