 Police Fire Teargas At Protesters In Port Harcourt Tension erupted in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, on Monday as officers of the Rivers State Police Command fired teargas at protesters gathered at the Isaac Boro Park. The protesters, members of the 'Take It Back Movement', defied police warnings, insisting on their right to assemble. The demonstrators, who arrived at the venue as early as 9 am, were met with heavy police presence. "Nobody can tell us where not to gather, we are Rivers people," they shouted, standing firm despite police warnings. The standoff escalated, with officers deploying teargas to disperse the crowd, chasing protesters, and beating up some, including journalists. The protest aimed to express grievances against the government, including the repeal of the Cybercrime Act and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.        President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday emerged the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States.
His Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed this in a message posted on his Twitter page.He wrote, “President Muhammadu Buhari has been elected the new Chairman of Economic Community of West African States {ECOWAS} at the just concluded ECOWAS Summit in Lome Togo.The announcement was made shortly after a closed session of Heads of State of the Commission''.One more photo below.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
