THE Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Nigeria has described former Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN). Mr Kofi Annan as a statesmen and father of African humanitarianism.
In a tribute to Annan who died Saturday at the age of 80, EFF Nigeria noted while in-charge of the UN his commitment to peace-building was second to none.
The tribute issued by group coordinator, Comr. Marvis Enoma Iyamu further described Annan's demise on Saturday as a sad loss to humanity as a whole.
"We the members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Nigeria chapter wish to express our grief on the passing on to glory of a great African icon and leader KOFI ANAN
"We are not just in grief but we give God thanks for a life well lived, not just as the Secretary General of the United nations but also as an elder statesman and a pan africanist, as a national leader you ensured at all times that the former Gold coast (GHANA) had and still has enough peace and political stability cum economic progress, his expertise as a statesman and father of African Humanitarianism is second to non, while representing Africa at the United nations he (KOFI ANAN) did his best to ensure peace and stability in the world, he anchored and formulated various policies and programs to this effect, one of such programs was the UNITED NATIONS WORLD SUMMIT 2005 where as the Secretary General he made a declaration upon the member-states of the United nations that "We will be forced to act if another Rwanda looms" this best represents his desire to ensure a tranquil and peace filled society, this also renders his displeasure for the Rwanda civil war of 1994 between the Hutus and the tutsis,which Africa and the world will not forget on time.
"KOFI ANAN came at a point the affairs of UN was almost in shambles, he came, he saw, he didn't just conquered but he made political cum economic policies to serve as a guide for the UN in years to come which the economic freedom fighters in Africa stands to promote.
"From the revolutionary leadership of the economic freedom fighters- NIGERIA, we tender our condolences to the KOFI ANAN Family, the good people of Ghana, West Africa, Africa and the world at large."We are optimistic that his legacies will stand the test of time," the statement reads.
