 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. GOV. ALMAKURA TASKS MEDIA ON PROFESSIONALISM AND FACT BASED REPORTAGE.{PHOTOS}.


     His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has tasked the media to ensure professionalism and fact based reportage, calling on them to continue to live up to the very high standard and balanced reportage expected from media professionals.
Gov. Almakura disclosed this through the General Director General (Strategic Communication and Press Affairs) Mr. Yakubu Lamai who commenced a working tour of media organizations in Nasarawa State for the purpose of familiarization and to strengthen the relationship between Nasarawa State government under the stewardship of Governor Almakura and the media in the state and to specifically solicit the professional support of media organizations towards balanced media coverage prior to the 2019 Elections and constructive analysis of government actions and programs in Nasarawa State.

The Director General was received by The General Manager Hamza Musa Makarfi , who appreciated the passion for the sustenance of the long standing relationship between the Nasarawa state Government and the Nigerian Television Authority . The NTA GM gave his assurance that they would continue to do their best in fact based reportage towards ensuring success in the handling of the affairs of the Government,

The Director General Was received by the State Chairman of the NUJ Comrade Dogo Shammah, who, appreciated the visit assured him of the support of the NUJ as he sets of on his assignment stating that they may not always have the same view s with the Government but they would always be supportive of the Government
The NUJ Chairman assured the Government of objectivity and balance in their reportage, frowning on the happenings on the social media where fake news and hate speech was always trending ans misinforming the public.
Mr. Shammah commended the Governor on the landmark strides he had carried out which have changed Nasarawa state . The Chairman urged for monthly media briefings to be held by the MDAs and the LGAs to keep them abreast with projects and developments.
Lastly the Chairman disclosed Nasarawa State had the North Central Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) , North Central Vice President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), , North Central Vice President of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).

The Director General was received by the publisher and Veteran Journalist Mr. Matthew Kuje at eth Eggon News Office where he congratulated The Director General expressing support and confidence wishing him success in his new assignment.
He commended the commend the Government for finally visiting his 19 year old Newspaper House, stating that administrations came and went but no one, but this one has come to visit , thanking them and assuring them they were always welcome to come. Mr. Kuje stated that he regarded the visit as highly significant and heartwarming, disclosing it was the start of another level of relationship. He hoped that there would be a change in how his medium as seen, stating that though his paper was a community newspaper they were to be kept in the know of events and happening so as to tell the community about the government and give feedback to the Government..
He advised the Government to always see the media as partners in progress ensuring it handles criticism from the free press well.
Lastly urging more support to media through adverts which help sustain the mediums.

Precious FM
The Director General was received by the General Manager Precious FM Musa Abdullahi at the Radon station who appreciated the visit which he described as timely and very considerate. He explained that the station was very supportive of the mutual understanding between of them and Government , who were also their to serve the people of the state with a focus and goal of development of the state anchored on peace. Stating that they would always continue to do things only within the professional calling of the profession.
He commended the Director General for building a foundation of sustainable and synergy through touring the media houses, making it known that they were always partners in progress with all regardless of party affiliations and ready to work with everyone..
The General Manager thanked the Governor for all he had done of the station to over the years and would continue to produce programmers that would get people involved in governance calling on the Government to consider sponsorship of such programs,
Appreciating the visit the Radio Nigeria GM , stated that it was a signs of very good things to come in Government Media Relations ,especially at the twilight of the administration,
Correspondents Chapel
The Director General was received by the Chairman Correspondents Chapel Abubakar Suleiman who appreciated the visit , the chapel congratulated the Director General and assuring the Government of the support of the Chapel towards ensuring balanced fact based reports.
Speaking during the visit other members of the Chapel equally appreciated the efforts of the State Government discussing vital issues that would smoothen the relationship between journalists and the Government, with hope of being seen a partners in progress .
The Media Tour by the Director General gave the media the opportunity to discuss with the Government and examine issues that would strengthen the relationship , ensuring the media and state Government could understand each other better , finding areas of mutual advantage and support. While calling journalists to uphold professional ethics to promote peace and unity in the country.More photos below.
