 A Mother's Day Nightmare in Princeton, Illinois. A 3-year-old boy was struck by gunfire as police burst into a barricaded room, ending a frightening hostage situation. Multiple agencies responded to the Hummingbird Mobile Home Park in Princeton, Illinois, on Sunday, May 10th at 2:42 a.m. The initial call went out as a domestic disturbance but officers discovered much worse.  42-year-old, Anthony Rodriguez, had barricaded himself in a room armed with a knife. Anthony had taken several people as hostages, including Aurora Almanza and her 3-year-old son.  Multiple agencies were on the scene, including the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and  the Princeton Police Department.  Authorities attempted to negotiate but ultimately rushed the room when they heard screaming coming from inside.  Officials have reported that officers fired shots as they entered the room.        Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has restated that the issue of security and safety of lives and property of Lagosians is non-negotiable as it is the foundation for development, progress and prosperity.
The Governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Special Duties & Intergovernmental Relations - Mr. Oluseye Oladejo, stated this at the formal commissioning of a newly constructed Odo-Noforija Police Station in Noforija, Eredo Local Council Development Area, Epe.
Ambode assured that his administration will not relent in rendering all the required support to all the security agencies especially the Lagos State Police Command, adding that the sense of safety and security which the presence of the newly constructed Police Station will engender brings about significant improvement in the socio-economic life of the people of Noforija and its adjoining communities.
He further urged residents, investors and other stakeholders to continue to support all security agencies by providing them with quality and timely information that will enhance the provision of security and protection of lives and property of all, especially as the festive season approaches.
In his remarks, the Chairman Eredo Local Council Development Area, Mr. Adeniyi Salau commended the State Government for its efforts in securing the entire State as the security of lives and property is very important for the overall development of any society.
He noted that the present administration has prioritised the issue of security which has led to the procurement of security gadgets, equipment and facilities necessary for combating crimes in the State ranging from helicopters, cars, motorcycles and speedboats amongst others.
Also speaking during the occasion, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal represented by Mr. Mohammed Ari, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, thanked the State Government for donating the building with a promise that the Lagos State Police Command will ensure adequate security in the area and Lagos State in general.
In his address, His Royal Highness, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja (JP), the Aladeshonyin of Odo Noforija appreciated Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for coming to their aide by safeguarding their community with the establishment of the police station. He assured the Government of their continued support and cooperation.The commissioning ceremony was witnessed by traditional rulers in the Area, top Politicians, community leaders and Senior Police Officers in the State.
