 A Limpopo man who stabbed his girlfriend to death in front of his own mother will spend the next 20 years in prison. The Polokwane High Court sentenced 48 year old Nathaniel Molatelo Mokgehle from Sekonye Village in the Botlokwa policing area for the murder of his girlfriend, 41 year old Mokgadi Julia Mohlaela. The court heard he chased her out of the house and continued stabbing her until she collapsed and died. Mokgehle also received six months for malicious damage to property. The sentence will run at the same time as the 20 year murder sentence. Evidence presented in court showed the victim had previously opened a malicious damage to property case against him. He was still attending court for that case when the murder happened. The attack happened on 08 June 2025 around 16:00 at his mother’s home in Sekonye Village.     President Muhammadu Buhari salutes Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State for the recognition by Pope Francis over his promotion of social harmony, good neighbourliness and a willingness to help individuals, institutions and other states.
The President felicitates with the government and people of Anambra State for the deserved award to the governor, which takes into full cognisance the maturity and decency of the governor in handling the last elections in the state.
President Buhari commends Cardinal Francis Arinze, Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments at the Vatican, who will lead a Pontifical Mass preceding the special award by the Catholic Church to Governor Obiano on December 8, 2018.
The President affirms that the recognition by the Catholic Church will send the right signal to other states and all Nigerians that free, fair and peaceful elections are realisable, especially when political leaders declare their stand against non- violence and properly sensitize the electorate.
President Buhari equally congratulates Chief Obi Adimora and Mr Chidi Amamgbo who will also receive awards at the event.
