NERC: 112 Nigerians Killed in Electricity-Related Incidents in 2024 The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported 112 electricity-related deaths and 95 injuries in 2024, with wire snaps, unsafe conditions, and vandalism identified as major causes. Despite a slight 2.6% drop in fatalities compared to 2023, the report shows distribution companies (DisCos) remain the primary source of safety lapses, accounting for over 90% of casualties across all quarters. Ibadan, Eko, and Kaduna DisCos recorded the highest number of incidents, while NESCO and Yola DisCos maintained clean safety records in multiple quarters. The Commission said it has launched investigations and concluded three compensation settlements for victimsā€™ families, reaffirming its commitment to safety enforcement within the power sector.
