 The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), yesterday, sealed off some buildings/properties across the state over different environmental infractions. They are; * A property on 34, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island for deliberate discharge of raw sewage into the public drain causing offensive odour and sewage flowing in the community, constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution and endangering human life. * A block of Shops along Powerline Road, Meiran, Alimosho, for the illegal construction and operation of unsanitary toilet facility on a road setback without a permit, constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution and endangering human life. * A three-storey building at 38, Adeniji Adele Street, Lagos Island for deliberate discharge of raw sewage into the public drain. * A building at H29, House of Jesus Street, Langbasa, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, for the deliberate discharge of raw sewage into the public drains. Hubby and I were at #itafaji early today. We had responded to a call to go donate blood for the victims of the building that collapsed and killed many children and occupiers of the building. As we meandered our way to destination Massey hospital, I was forced to reflect on the squalor, the filth, the absolutely appalling location of a hospital dedicated to paediatric cases. Every time we wound down our windows to ask for directions to the hospital, the stench choked us. It was unbelievable that humans were inhabitants of such a place which is only about 20 mins drive from the other Lagos island occupied by the HAVES. It was even more pathetic that somewhere there used to be a school on the penthouse of an illegal structure. Who approved a school in that kind of hole?.Most of the casualties had been transferred to other hospitals for lack of adequate equipment. We were told. Many had died from deep injuries.How did we get here? How can people live like this and function like human beings?. This isn't the Nigeria we signed up for, We have a crisis on our hands and yet we continue to enable politicians to lie, hoodwink, divide, manipulate and deceive us. I remember schooling in lafiaji, lagos in another lifetime when lives mattered...What really is the worth of a life in Nigeria today?? I wonder..I wonder.
